I happen to be one of those people who believes everything happens for a reason. Not because I’m a fatalist or because I believe a higher power directed it so, but because without all the twists and turns in my life, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And with just a few exceptions, my life is pretty effing amazing.
I also believe that life is what we make it, but recognize that all of us hit a wall at some point. Maybe a job we want goes to someone else. Or maybe a goal we set falls off the table. And it leaves us feeling like we just need a day (or seven) in our pajamas.
I had my share of those moments in 2015, which reminded me of something else I believe: You have to show Life what you want. If you want something, really want it, then you have to face your shoulders in that direction and take steps toward it, no matter how small.
Let’s say you want a promotion and it would involve a longer communte. Then go get your tires checked and the oil changed. Or maybe you really want to go to Italy this summer. Then order a travel book or buy your “Italy scarf.”
Said another way, you have to invite in that which you want. You don’t have to spend money, but you do have to take action. Clean out space for the new car, update your resume, clean out your wallet or clear a space to make your art. No one else can do this for you.
And said still another way ... if your dream came true today, would you be ready? Or would you have to scramble around first? I’m serious! If someone handed you the keys to your new car, would it take you an hour to clean out the old one?
Our intentions, our thoughts and our behaviors all shape our futures. Do something today that will show Life that you are getting ready for, and are open to, receiving that which you want so dearly.
